Koe Koe Tech

Organization Details
Koe Koe Tech is a Myanmar IT Social Enterprise which focuses on developing software to address key social issues in the fields of Health, Law and Governance, with considerable experience and an intimate knowledge of the local cultural context. Founded in 2013 by Dr. Yar Zar Minn Htoo and Michael Lwin Esq., KKT employs 145 staff, 92.4% of whom are Myanmar nationals, with more than two-thirds female. We are intentionally Myanmar-centric and diverse by design: we believe that the best solutions are locally made and driven, and that diversity is a strength for Myanmar, not a weakness.
Impact Story
Koe Koe Tech seeks to provide affordable, quality, sustainable technology for Myanmar’s health, law and governance sectors aligned well with software development. Koe Koe Tech has been developing software in the Myanmar context since 2013. We are aiming the E-government as it is one of the last sectors that disruptive innovation hasn't touched. This is why we exist to build and develop software with the legal, political, and social ecosystem in Myanmar. We build fundamental software systems from Myanmar using a user-centred, modern software approach.
We develop electronic medical records software and health management information systems that work in low-resource contexts, on tablets and smartphones. We create tax and utility software that integrates with smart water meters for municipal government, court information systems, legal research software, and access to justice software. All using Fourth Industrial Revolution tech: AI, machine learning, deep learning, Internet of Things (IoT), public cloud, human-centred design.
As the positive impact, Maymay, our flagship maternal health app, will be the national birth registration app, distributed by 20k midwives to 1 million new mothers every year. It has shown evidence of dramatically improving health indicators for women in Myanmar. In early 2019, we released Pyo Pyo May for girls and women aged 14-24 in the Yangon region and the impact of Pyo Pyo May as the app is still in its pilot phase. We are also working with the municipal government to develop modern tax software to enhance and support the crucial work they undertake; it consists of MyanKhon (for government workers) and MyoTaw (for citizens). The impact of MK is significant as increased trust strengthens citizen-government relations, increased tax revenue and other available resources, reduced corruption and abuse of the system and increased DAO expenditure on municipal services.
