Develop Curriculum and Teach for Rural Students' Opportunities
Support Education in Quichinche, Ecuador
PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMPACT
We are an organization that facilitates cross-cultural service learning, volunteer vacations, community initiatives, and scholarships in highland Ecuador and Mali's Dogon Country.
We need an Experteer to design a coherent and effective curriculum for one level of ESL classes, as well as other electives, for secondary school students. These classes will take place five days a week in the mornings for five weeks in July and August. Plan the curriculum ahead of time, teach it, and record it in a way that is easy for future volunteers to follow. For the electives, you may plan and teach lessons in other subjects, such as art, leadership, math, health, physics, or geography, and you will help lead field trips and enrichment activities for the summer students. Finally, you will serve as a cultural ambassador. Your teaching will prepare disadvantaged rural students to succeed in the next academic year by helping them get up to speed with their urban counterparts. It will help open up their options for the future as professionals making a difference.
You will have developed, taught, and recorded a 5-week curriculum in ESL, as well as several one-week electives. Deliverables include recorded lesson plans. Student learning and evaluations of the program will also demonstrate success.
We Provide These Local Benefits
You will be placed with a host family, which will allow countless opportunities to explore the indigenous cultures and subsistence lifestyles of highland Ecuador as well as the natural environment around you.
Home-cooked meals will be provided with the host family. We provide a grocery stipend with which the volunteer buys groceries to share with the host family.
