Description and Impact

In December 2018, we will be co-hosting a conference of African and global leaders, influencers, and activists, working together to end female genital mutilation (FGM) and child, early, and forced marriage (CEFM). For too long, the fight against FGM and CEFM in Africa has been driven by organizations from the global North: this Summit will put leadership firmly back into the hands of African leaders.

The Summit has support from the UN, African Union, World Bank, religious leaders, and many Heads of State from across Africa. An event of this scale attracts global media interest - and we believe it will increase momentum towards the eradication of FGM and CEFM by 2030.

Although the event is large scale, we are a small team, and need help with the practical aspects of raising the Summit's profile: namely, a website that is accessible in English, French and Arabic. The website will not only inform people about the Summit, but will act as a tool in the fight against FGM and CEFM in its own right.

We have a WordPress site to which we would like to add pages for this Summit. We will provide content, but we need an Experteer to:

1.Create web pages, including:

  • Background on the Summit
  • Speaker Bios & Promotion
  • Logistics (where, when, how to book, where to stay, etc)
  • Opportunities to donate or sponsor
  • Press area

2. Provide templates that make it easy for us (who have very limited WordPress skills!) to update content, and train local staff on updating and maintaining the site to ensure continuity after the Experteer has completed the project

Other requirements

Our ideal candidate is an experienced professional with a strong interest in ending violence against women and girls, and experience in creating websites that inspire and engage a wide range of audiences.

Experience in events promotion would be fantastic, and someone with fluency in English, French and Arabic would be a dream come true.

We Provide These Local Benefits

  • Learning Opportunity
  • Good For Groups

Learning Opportunity

We are fortunate to have the support of Communications professionals from the UN and other organisations, so you can expect to deepen your understanding of how agencies of all sizes and levels collaborate to bring a Summit like this to fruition. We will work with you in a way that develops skills on both sides, including:

  • briefing
  • managing multiple expectations and inputs
  • ensuring a balance between the practical needs of organisers and sponsors, and amplifying the voices of survivors and activists

Additional Benefits

We anticipate that this work will be carried out remotely, and we commit to consistent communication, collaborative working and respect for your expertise. We take our work seriously, but we have fun while we do it, and you can expect a combination of passion and laughter when you work with us.

We would be very happy to discuss how we can publicly acknowledge your support, both on the website itself and in other ways.
