Description and Impact

Role overview

You will work with the partners implementing the project to coach local SME's in improving their financial management capacity and their ability to access financing, win contracts, budget, and report financially. This will entail direct interaction with various SMEs that are at the inception or early stages of their operations that will benefit from financial insight to reach the next level of growth. By working with national volunteers, you will be supported in language and cultural interpretation when fostering relationships with various local SMEs.

Deliverables

The success of the project will be measured by the following KPIs:

  • Trained SME staff in simple financial and basic Accounting n
  • Sound financial processes are developed for budgeting and managing expenditure
  • Coached and mentored SIDO, TCCIA and TWCC staff to improve business support services
  • Developed tools and training materials with partner staff that can be used in their business development services
  • Improved capacity of SMEs to win contracts with companies in the extractives and agriculture value chains

These KPI’s can be subject to change if deemed necessary by project manager or employee.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Qualifications:
• A bachelor degree holder in Finance/Accountant/Banking or related subject 
• Fully qualified accountant 

Experience: 
• Experience in developing financial management systems 
• Able to formulate and implement financial regulations, policies and procedures. 
• Good experience in establishing and supporting organization development 
• Facilitation and training skills 
• Strong understanding of business ethics

Skills/Abilities:
• Experience of working on similar projects in a developing country
• Strong understanding of the particular barriers facing female headed SMEs 
• Able to network effectively, adapting communication style to different contexts and audiences, including internal and external stakeholders
• Ability to work independently and prioritise own work load 
• Able to be flexible and travel significantly 

The volunteer must be a team player with good social and interpersonal skills and networking abilities. S/he should be able to handle conflicts in a constructive consultative way.
S/he should have a flexible personality, adapting easily to new situations.
