Description and Impact
75% of people in Tanzania don't have access to the national grid. People make do with chopping down trees and burning kerosene so they can cook and light their homes, but these practices are damaging Tanzania's biodiversity and the health of its population. Social enterprises are stepping in to solve this problem, providing affordable clean energy solutions from simple solar lights to full home systems that can power a fridge. But these enterprises need support to grow. We will provide business development support to up and coming clean energy social enterprises, giving them everything they need to run smoothly and scale across the country. At the end of the project, you will have worked directly with 2 to 3 energy businesses, and contributed to the development of a clean energy business development curriculum that will serve the needs of these businesses.

Working with us you'll get key insights into the entrepreneurship ecosystem in Tanzania, and a look at sustainable development in action. You'll see the challenges entrepreneurs face in growing their business, but also the passion they have to grow Tanzania. You'll hopefully pick up some Swahili too, working with our bi-lingual team.
Many of our volunteers have gone onto switch career paths into the startup life or development work. This is a great opportunity to see if this is the right environment for you.
As is tradition in Tanzania, we'll cover your lunch costs Monday - Friday.
Transport costs to visit entrepreneurs are covered. Our offices function as co-working spaces, and you'll be invited to any events we have taking place with our entrepreneurs. If you're also looking to learn about a new sector, you can work with our team to support entrepreneurs outside of health.
