Social Impact Project for Photographer/Videographer Extraordinaire Needed to Showcase Thai Silk & Life in Rural Thailand

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

We are a start-up organization that is just starting the beginning stages of becoming a registered non-profit. We currently have two income generation projects running in rural villages in Thailand in which we partner with existing groups of women creating Thai handicrafts and contract them to create exclusive products to be sold through our organization.

We are looking for someone skilled in photography, videography, and photo/video editing to shoot content for our website and for fundraising and marketing.  We have some ideas about the style we would like, but would love to hear creative input and ideas.  To encourage trust and respectability of our "brand" we would like for our photos and video to be of a similar standard to some of the most recognized non-profit organizations.  Mostly, we want the photographs we use to really capture the heart of our mission.  We are very much against exploiting poverty through "pity photos", so we want to make sure the chosen candidate is on board with capturing the reality of village life and poverty with dignity.  The ideal expert should be able to provide samples of edited videos and photos that demonstrate an ability to shoot retail products, portraits, and landscapes.  The selected expert will have the flexibility to travel around Bangkok during the most weekday, daytime hours and be available to work in the late afternoon and evening hours and on weekends.  We will make sure to give you time "off" for personal travel around Thailand if desired.  Two working trips to our two work sites in rural villages will be necessary to capture images and video of the women we work with and their creative process.

Great for people with photography/videography skills! Interested but not the right length? Like this organization and have an idea how your skills can help? Message us at: match@movingworlds.org

Learning Opportunity

You will learn a ton about Thailand and Thai culture, as well as some of the struggles of the people in rural areas.  It will be a great first-hand experience of the contrast of city and rural life in Thailand, and you will get to witness some of the unseen aspects of Thailand that most tourists won't see.  Additionally, you will get to be a part of our journey towards becoming a registered non-profit and fair trade organization and learn about the process with us.  This will be a wonderfully opportunity for resume building and to gain international experience within the non-profit industry with a focus on social enterprise.

Accommodation

A private bedroom with attached bathroom will be provided with full access to the living room, kitchen, and patio with a grill in a new construction, two-story townhouse. The room has a twin sized Thai mattress (floor mattress) and desk, an air conditioning unit, great natural light, and wood floors. There is no water heater in the shower, but you may use the main shower when it's not in use if you prefer a warm shower. The townhouse is located in a safe, gated community (with pool) walking distance to a major mall, a quick taxi ride to the BTS (sky train), and 20 minutes from Suvarnabhumi Airport. A bicycle is available for use for your convenience, and you can be given a ride on our motorcycle when both the motorcycle and driver are available. For potential teams, we also have a futon in the living room that can be used as a full-size bed with a half bath downstairs. Wifi is available and we have a TV, DVD player and lots of movies, and Google Chrome Cast for your entertainment. Simple exercise equipment and a yoga mat will be at your disposal. You will be sharing the townhouse with a hedgehog and a mostly quiet married couple (one Thai, one American) in their mid to late twenties.  While we enjoy a few drinks, we are not partiers and do not smoke, so we would expect the same courtesy from anyone we host.  We are open to interacting socially or just professionally depending on your preferences!

Additional Benefits

We are happy to take you on a tour of the most popular sites in Bangkok and would love to take you on a trip (bus fare and hotel provided) to the village our organization operates in depending on the time of your stay.  We are also able and happy to give you recommendations of places to visit and can help arrange any personal travel you would like to do during off time.  We both worked in the travel industry and are very knowledgeable about travel within Southeast Asia.  We will also offer Thai culture, language, and cooking classes in our home as one of us is Thai.  The other is happy to share knowledge about international development and community organizing.
