Social Impact Project for Help Pioneering Tanzanian Solar Company Leverage Data for Good

How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience on projects like this one.

Project Description and Impact

We are the only company in East Africa focused on equipment that farmers and small businesses can use to grow their businesses. Our solar packages include water pumps for farming, lights for fishing, and refrigeration for the dairy industry. We use GSM technology to communicate with our customer devices around the country, even in the most remote of areas.

Managing this smart equipment as well as our 60 staff across half of Tanzania requires efficient capture and use of information. We need to track inventory, customer service issues, logistics, sales management, and other metrics that would help us better serve our clients, over 64% of whom are below the poverty line. This project is your chance to make a HUGE impact on our organization and serve our mission of equipping rural households and businesses to achieve prosperity and security.

Learning Opportunity

About technology's applications in emerging markets, about agriculture and technology - how they are increasingly interconnected, a tangible view of the effects and risks of climate change, and about what building a company in Tanzania looks like.

Accommodation

It depends on when you come, but several of us have spare rooms. At a minimum, we could set you up someplace close to the office. We'd take care of that side.

Food Stipend

Lunches and a late breakfast are provided at the office during the week. You'd be responsible for your own dinners and weekend meals, though we would point you in the right direction and probably share a good number of meals together. At the office we have both vegetarian and meat options, as our CEO and Director of Engineering are both vegetarians.

Additional Benefits

We could help you arrange a safari (the Serengeti is just a few hours from our office), link you up with a Swahili teacher if you like, and generally ensure your stay is an enjoyable one!
