Opportunity Details

PROJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMPACT

We are a NGO established in Palestine in May 2009 by dancer/choreographer M.Shawamreh with the help of several former dancers and cultural icons. The founders wished to introduce contemporary dance to the Palestinian art scene by providing professional performances. The organisation is also one of the first ballet schools in Ramallah.

As we are always trying to improve and to give better conditions to our students and professionnal dancers, we sometimes need external help and funds to complete our projects. Therefore, we are looking for a volunteer with great skills and experience in project writing for grants and fundraising. This volunteering experience would be for you a beautiful opportunity to help an organisation that is reaching through arts a whole society.

We would like to welcome a volunteer who would be able to stay for at least ten days with us in Ramallah. Thereby you would meet the whole team of professors as well as the students. You will be able to observe the life of the Theater and understand better the needs and goals that we have.

You need to be fluent in English, with experience in fundraising. You need to be available for at least 10 days but your visit can be extended to 3 months if you decide to complete the project on the spot.

DELIVERABLES

By the end of the volunteering period that we will define together, we expect to have successfully finalized at least one project towards our goal of better teaching/learning conditions.

We Provide These Local Benefits

ACCOMMODATION

We offer accommodation in a room in a guesthouse. Wi-fi is provided and a  toilet, bathroom and fully equipped kitchen to be shared with others who are living there. We also have a big yard and have cats, both in the guesthouse and the theater, so loving animals is definitely a must. Also, some of us smoke, but we do so always with respect to others and outside.

Because we are renting the guest house, we cannot provide it free of charge. So the Experteer can stay in our guesthouse for a monthly contribution of 200 EUR per month or we will assist you in finding an alternative accommodation.

Regarding food- we share some meals sometimes in the guesthouse or in the theater but other than that the buying of food is personal for everyone. Of course, we share everything we have in the fridge but we expect everyone to make their contribution towards what we have there. Essentially, the Experteer is also expected to carry their own cost for food.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITY

Orient & Dance Theater is an open creative space and the volunteer is welcome to create new classes or workshops. They can learn to work in an international team, managing themselves in a new culture and improve language skills.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

We have had many volunteers during the years, some of whom decided to stay and continue living in Palestine. The experiences we have had with volunteers from different countries have been amazing. Because this is volunteering for all of us we wish to have people who can enjoy life, be responsible and have good energy and enjoy what they put their time into.

Ramallah is a good starting point for travels all around Palestine. Arabic classes and lessons in national dance dabkeh or the instrument oud are also available.

VIRTUAL

This opportunity accepts applications for virtual experteers.
