Project Description and Impact

Three billion people around the world cook their food by burning charcoal, wood, and biomass on open fires or rudimentary stoves. This has massive health, economic, and environmental repercussions. Over 25 million Ugandans are affected by indoor air pollution from dirty cooking. We're piloting programs to improve access to best-in-class stoves, which give off less smoke and cut fuel expenditures in half. Our work in Uganda builds on what we've learned in Sudan. We offer stoves to women through partner organizations, where stoves are offered on installment models. These models requires very little upfront cost, removing the biggest barrier to getting a stove.

We're looking for an Experteer to help us find a local source in Uganda, who can cut metal to our specifications to manufacture energy efficient cookstoves.  This would help us to reduce the cost of the stove, which would allow us to help more people, as it would be cheaper than importing the metal pre-cut from overseas.
