Description and Impact

Role overview

The International Resilience Volunteer will closely work with VSO programme teams and partners to strengthen and mainstream VSO’s approach to resilience.


The Ideal candidate will carry out pilot risk and capacity assessments among communities and partner organisations in order to contribute towards building preparedness plans. This would involve training partner organisations and community representatives in understanding the different concepts of resilience, carrying out assessments, and engaging in discussions regarding perceptions of risks and preparedness to build on the importance of resilience.

Deliverables

Key indicators will be developed after deployment by the volunteer in close collaboration with VSO and staff.

  • Community/school engagement plan/process
  • Pilot risk, vulnerability and capacity assessments conducted – tools and process documented
  • Risk, vulnerability and capacity assessments data report with recommendations for embedding resilience in the project/programmes
  • Number of recommendations implemented
  • Number of VSO programmes team members and partner staff (primary actors) trained/coached in VSOs approach to Resilience
  • Increase understanding by VSO Tanzania team of resilience and what it means to VSO programmes; recognition of what we are already doing in resilience in projects for scale up
  • Number of Partner organisational risk and capacity assessment conducted 
  • Number of ICE materials  developed, related to resilience
  • Monthly plans and reports submitted and approved by manager
  • Number of relevant organisations and best practices identified  to support VSO Tanzania’s work on resilience
  • These KPI’s can be subject to change if deemed necessary by programme manager or employee.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Qualifications (essential): 
• Bachelor’s degree in development studies, social work, or other related fields.
• At least one year experience in working with or mobilising communities, grass-roots workers.
• Good understanding of linkages between disasters, other shocks such as conflicts, and development in the Tanzanian context
• Fluency in English

Desirable
• Field experience or have actively participated in humanitarian action projects, ideally international or developmental
