Description and Impact

Role overview

To deliver our Maternal and Neonatal Health programs, we are seeking qualified Obstetrics/Gynecology specialists with at least 3 years post qualification experience. You will work in a dual role delivering obstetrics services and building the capacity of resident health care professionals. You will work closely with resident medical officers, medical students and pre-medical personnel; support patient management and provide advice to hospital management on policy matters on standards of care and improvement of programmes. The emphasis of your position will depend on the key objectives of VSO's local partner.


The following KPI’s will be improved as a result of this project. These KPI's can be subject to change if deemed necessary by the manager or employee, always in collaboration.

  • Number or percentage of health care workers (Disaggregated by cadre, and sex trained in obstetric care.
  • Number or percentage of health care workers trained in surgical interventions in targeted hospitals
  • Number of supportive supervisions and outreach conducted by the volunteers in collaboration with RHMTs
  • Health care workers improved performance on Vscan operationalization(To be observed by qualified HCWs)
  • Number of SOPs and maternal health guidelines developed.

Skills, qualifications and experience

You have a Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) and certification of specialty or post graduate training in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. You'll have a minimum of 3 years practical experience in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. Prior experience in clinical teaching and mentoring in the area of emergency obstetric care is desirable.
