Description and Impact
In our ecotourism line of action, we work with rural communities and Ejidos developing new economic alternatives for a sustainable present. In this project we will expand local MTB trails by 70 km in the next 12 months. The Experteer will play a key role in scouting, evaluating terrain, design, build and test this trail expansion. This project involves hands-on manual work. No heavy machinery available, however local communities will provide the workforce necessary to carry out the build plan. The Experteer will act as project leader and will manage building crews. Will also inteact with other stakeholders like local, regional, and international tour operators to promote visiting the trail system.
The Experteer will pass along your knowledge to build local capacities and enable the community to continue to grow after your project is over.
In the design stage, issues like market orientation and local services will be taken into account.
The Experteer must be well acquainted with international trail building standards and norms (IMBA).
Key success measures are:
- Trail system designed following international standards and norms. Documents & maps exist for the project as a whole.
- 70 km are finished and open to riders in a 12 month period.
- At least two local project participants have learned the trade of trail building.
- Visits to the new trail system are present and local communties benefit from a new source of income.
- Forest ecosystems will be better preserved by local communties by demand of visitors of having well conserved areas to ride.
