How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience with organizations like this one.

Organization Details

Year Up was founded on, and is guided by, the belief that every young adult deserves equal access to opportunity and racial and economic justice. Access to the networks and resources that encourage upward mobility are available to some, while deeply entrenched and pervasive barriers—largely experienced by individuals who identify as Black, Indigenous, or other people of color—continue to stifle the talent and ambition of others, sidelining millions into low-wage, low-stability jobs. This has created and fuels an Opportunity Divide, a vast chasm between young adults seeking economic opportunity and companies seeking talent. Our mission is to close the Opportunity Divide by ensuring that young adults gain the skills, experiences, and support with trainings in essential professional and technical skills that will empower them to reach their potential through careers and higher education.

Impact Story

The impact of our program can be seen from our students’ stories.  Recent January 2020 graduate, Carlos Zabala, came to YUBA after feeling like he had hit a dead-end and had no room for self-development. After beginning the program, Carlos completed an internship in Salesforce’s Marketing department, and was hired full-time at the company as a Marketing Associate, greatly reshaping his professional and personal trajectory. January 2019 graduate, Narmin Mammadsoy, sought refuge in the Bay Area with her family to escape political persecution in her home country, Azerbaijan. She enrolled in De Anza College, and applied to Year Up, where she studied Data Analytics and worked at eBay as a BI and Robotics Process Automation intern. This summer, Narmin graduated from De Anza College and began taking classes at UC Berkeley, where she plans to major in Computer Science.
