How This Works

As part of the TRANSFORM Support Hub, you will learn how to advance your career while getting hands on experience with organizations like this one.

Organization Details

Code Nation equips students in under-resourced high schools with the skills, experiences, and connections that together create access to careers in technology. We recruit volunteer software engineers to teach students attending underresourced  schools. Our students’ family income averages around $46K a year - and for many of them- a Code Nation class is their first step towards upward economic mobility. Our students learn entry level coding skills and gain proficiency in HTML, CSS & JS.

Impact Story

There’s a system error in tech. Right now, the US is facing a tech workforce crisis. Code.org  projects that 1M tech jobs will go unfilled in 2020.  We also know that the majority of tech professionals decide to pursue a tech career in HS or earlier. But less than half of US high schools teach computer science. Schools cannot solve this crisis alone.  Enter Code Nation. We are a nonprofit organization that brings together technologists, companies, and under resourced high schools to solve this crisis. Through our classes, hackathons and professional skills days, students connect to industry resources, networks and mentors.  This year we will have served 5000 students since our founding, 74% of our alumni are studying STEM or working in tech. By 2025 our students are projected to earn $1B in incremental income.
